Pectus excavatum
Pectus excavatum is a congenital and often familial disease. It is more common in males than females, with a reported male-female ratio of 4:1. It is a sex-linked dominant inheritance. The main manifestation is that the sternum, costal cartilage and part of the ribs in the middle of the front chest of children are deformed to the back, forming a funnel shape. In most cases of pectus excavatum, the sternum starts to move back from the level of the second or third costal cartilage to the xiphoid process, forming a boat-like or funnel-like deformity, which compresses and even displaces the organs in the chest cavity, and seriously affects the development and function of the heart and lungs in children.
