Onychomycosis
Onychomycosis is an infection of the nails caused by dermatophytes, yeasts and non-dermatophyte filamentous fungi (molds). The nail disease caused by dermatophytes infecting the nail plate alone is called tinea unguium. Tinea unguium is mostly directly transmitted by tinea pedis, while tinea fingernails may be transmitted by tinea manuum or directly infected by scratching tinea in other parts of the body. Tinea unguium is commonly known as "onychomycosis" and is called chicken claw wind or putty nails in traditional Chinese medicine. It is mostly caused by the long-term spread of tinea manuum and tinea pedis, which leads to the loss of nail health.
