Congenital aortic stenosis in children
Congenital aortic stenosis (CAS) is the sixth most common congenital heart disease. It is caused by the fusion of the aortic valves during the embryonic period, which presents various malformations, such as unicuspid valve, bicuspid valve, tricuspid valve or quadrucuspid valve, with bicuspid valve being the most common. The valve leaflets are thickened and the valve ring is poorly developed, resulting in stenosis of the valve orifice.
