Mitral valve prolapse syndrome refers to a series of clinical manifestations with or without mitral regurgitation caused by various reasons that cause the mitral valve leaflets to prolapse into the left atrium during cardiac contraction. This syndrome often leads to complications such as progressive mitral regurgitation, infective endocarditis, arrhythmia, sudden cardiac death, and cerebrovascular accident.
