Meckel's diverticulum in children
Meckel diverticulum, also known as distal ileal diverticulum, is a common digestive tract malformation. It is a distal ileal diverticulum formed by incomplete degeneration of the yolk duct during embryonic development. Clinically, it is often asymptomatic and is often diagnosed only when complications of the diverticulum occur. When complications such as inflammation, necrosis, perforation, intestinal obstruction and bleeding occur, it causes surgical acute abdomen and requires medical treatment.
