Hemifacial spasm, also known as facial twitching or hemifacial spasm, is a functional disorder syndrome caused by irritation of one side of the nerve. It is mostly on one side, and bilateral patients are rare, accounting for about 4%. Most patients are adults over 40 years old, with a male-female ratio of 2:3. The incidence rate is about 64/100000 in the population. Stocks once reported that 13 people in four generations of a family were ill, but it was not a hereditary disease. This disease was recorded in the Chinese medical book "Shenzhen Yaohan" as early as the early 16th century. However, due to its unknown etiology and pathology, it has long been regarded as an incurable disease. This disease is rarely discussed in otology. It was not until the widespread development of oto-neurosurgery in the past 20 years that the disease was studied in depth, making it an important disease in otology.
