Dracunculiasis (dracontiasis), also known as guinea worm infection, is a parasitic disease caused by adult worms of the Medina nematode parasitizing the human body. Adult worms not only parasitize the deep connective tissue and subcutaneous tissue of the human body, but can also extend out of the body. In addition, it can also parasitize in or outside the body of animals such as dogs, horses, cattle, wolves, leopards, minks, monkeys, baboons, foxes, silver foxes, raccoons, minks, and cats. The main clinical manifestation is chronic skin ulcers. In 1995, a female worm specimen was seized from the left abdominal wall abscess of a 12-year-old male child in a rural area of Fuyang, Anhui. This is the first case of human infection with Medina nematode in my country.
