Aluminum bone disease
Chronic renal failure can cause renal osteodystrophy. One type is osteoteitis fibrosa, which is caused by secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT). This is a high turn-over bone disease. Another type is low turn-over bone disease, which is characterized by osteomalacia, mostly due to aluminum deposition in the bones, called aluminum-related bone disease. There is also a type of bone disease that has both of the above changes, called mixed osteodystrophy.
