Meconium constipation
Normal newborns usually pass meconium for the first time within 12 hours after birth, or it may be delayed to 12-24 hours, and very rarely, it may take 24-48 hours to start defecating. If a newborn has not started defecating after 48 hours of birth due to thick meconium accumulated in the sigmoid colon and rectum, and has transient symptoms of low intestinal obstruction, it is called meconium constipation or meconium embolism.
