Radiation cataract
In clinical practice, cataracts that are clearly proven to be caused by radiation are called radiation cataracts. The subcapsular epithelial cells in the lens equator are very sensitive to ionizing radiation. The damaged epithelial cells can produce granular substances that migrate from the periphery to the center under the capsule, especially in the posterior pole. The appearance of such granular substances requires a latent period of several months or even years.
