Bleeding gastric and duodenal ulcers
Gastric and duodenal ulcers with bleeding are one of the common causes of upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Bleeding is caused by erosion and rupture of blood vessels by ulcers. When capillaries are damaged, occult blood is only found during stool examination; when larger blood vessels are damaged, black stools and hematemesis appear. Generally, symptoms worsen before bleeding, and upper abdominal pain is relieved or disappears after bleeding.
