This product is an M cholinergic receptor blocker. Its peripheral effects are similar to those of atropine, with only a slight difference in the degree of action: this product has a stronger antispasmodic effect on smooth muscle than atropine, and can selectively relieve gastrointestinal, bile duct and urinary tract smooth muscle spasms and inhibit their peristalsis. It can also be used to relieve vascular smooth muscle spasms and improve microcirculation; its inhibitory effect on the secretion of glands such as the heart, eye smooth muscle (mydriasis and accommodation paralysis) and salivary glands is weaker than that of atropine. Its central effects mainly include: it has an excitatory effect on the respiratory center; its anti-vertigo and anti-tremor paralysis effects are stronger than atropine; but it has a significant sedative effect on the central nervous system, and a larger dose can produce a hypnotic effect. Therefore, the use of this product rarely causes side effects such as central nervous system excitement, mydriasis, and inhibition of saliva secretion similar to those caused by atropine.
