Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs have analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and anti-rheumatic effects, and can inhibit platelet aggregation. The analgesic effect is achieved by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins and other pain-causing substances; the anti-inflammatory effect may be related to the inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis and leukocyte chemotaxis; the antipyretic effect is achieved by affecting the hypothalamic temperature regulation center; and the inhibition of platelet aggregation is achieved by reducing the production of prostaglandins by inhibiting cyclooxygenase.
