Cefaclor

The antibacterial properties are similar to those of cefazolin, and it has good antibacterial effects on Staphylococci (including enzyme-producing strains), Streptococcus pyogenes, Pneumococcus, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Haemophilus influenzae, etc. Cefaclor is a second-generation oral cephalosporin, and its antibacterial effect is stronger than that of cefadroxil. Its activity against group A hemolytic streptococci, viridans streptococci, and Staphylococcus epidermidis is the same as that of cefadroxil; its antibacterial activity against pneumococci and non-enzyme-producing Staphylococcus aureus is 2 to 4 times stronger than that of cefadroxil, and its activity against enzyme-producing Staphylococcus aureus is the same. The MIC for Salmonella and Shigella is 0.25 to 1 mg/L, which is 8 times stronger than cefadroxil, and the MIC for gonococci is 0.016 to 1 mg/L. Many beta-lactamase-producing influenza bacilli are sensitive to this product; most common Proteus, Serratia, Acinetobacter, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa are resistant to this product.
