Metoprolol Tartrate Tablets
Function and Efficacy
This drug belongs to Class 2A, i.e., a β1-receptor blocker without partial agonist activity (cardioselective β-receptor blocker). It has a selective blocking effect on β1-receptors, has no PAA (partial agonist activity), and has no membrane stabilizing effect. Its effect in blocking β-receptors is approximately equal to that of propranolol (PP), and its selectivity for β1-receptors is slightly inferior to that of atenolol. The effects of metoprolol on the heart, such as slowing heart rate, inhibiting cardiac contractility, reducing automaticity, and delaying atrioventricular conduction time, are similar to those of propranolol and atenolol (AT). Its effect in reducing elevated blood pressure and heart rate during exercise testing is also similar to that of PP and AT. Its contractile effect on vascular and bronchial smooth muscle is weaker than that of PP, so its effect on the respiratory tract is also smaller, but it is still stronger than AT. Metoprolol can also reduce plasma renin activity.

Indication
It is used to treat hypertension, angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, aortic dissection, arrhythmia, hyperthyroidism, cardiac neurosis, etc. In recent years, it is also used to treat heart failure, and it should be used under the guidance of an experienced physician.
Usage and Dosage
For the treatment of hypertension, 100-200 mg/time, twice a day has an efficacy equivalent to atenolol 100 mg/time, once a day. Acute myocardial infarction: It is recommended to use it in the early stage, i.e. within the first few hours, because immediate use can reduce the scope of infarction and reduce the short-term (15-day) mortality rate in patients who have not undergone thrombolysis (this effect appears 24 hours after medication). It can reduce the reinfarction rate and re-ischemia rate in patients who have already undergone thrombolysis, and can also reduce the mortality rate if the medication is used within 2 hours. General usage: Metoprolol 2.5-5 mg/time (within 2 minutes) can be injected intravenously first, once every 5 minutes for a total of 3 times of 10-15 mg. Adverse Reactions

Precautions
Significant bradycardia (heart rate <45/min), cardiogenic shock, severe or acute heart failure, poor peripheral circulation perfusion, second-degree or third-degree atrioventricular block, sick sinus syndrome, and severe peripheral vascular disease.
Special Population Medication
Precautions for children: There is limited experience with the use of this product in children. Precautions for pregnancy and lactation: The use of beta-blockers during pregnancy can cause various problems for the fetus, including fetal growth retardation. Beta-blockers can have adverse effects on the fetus and newborn, especially bradycardia, so they should not be used during pregnancy or delivery. Drug Interactions
Co-administration with cimetidine or prior use of quinidine can increase the blood concentration of metoprolol.
