Ethambutol Hydrochloride Tablets

Function and Efficacy

This product is a synthetic antibacterial anti-tuberculosis drug. Its mechanism of action has not yet been fully elucidated. This product can penetrate into the mycobacteria to interfere with the synthesis of RNA, thereby inhibiting the reproduction of bacteria. This product is only effective against mycobacteria in the growth and reproduction period. So far, no cross-resistance has been found between this product and other anti-tuberculosis drugs.

Main ingredients: The chemical name of this product is: [2R,2[S-(R*,R*)]-R]-()2,2prime;-(1,2-ethylenediimino)-bis-1-butanol dihydrochloride. Molecular formula: C10H24N2O22HCl Molecular weight: 277.23

Appearance

This product is white tablets.

Indication

It is suitable for the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis in combination with other anti-tuberculosis drugs. It can also be used to treat tuberculous meningitis and atypical mycobacterial infections.

Usage and Dosage

Oral administration: 0.25g per time, 0.5-0.75g per day. You can also start with 25mg/kg per day, divided into 2-3 times; after the 8th week of medication, reduce the dose to 15mg/kg per day, divided into 2 times. In the long-term combined medication regimen, this product can be taken twice a week, 50mg/kg each time.

Adverse Reactions

1. The more common symptoms are blurred vision, eye pain, red-green color blindness or decreased vision, and narrowed visual field (optic neuritis is prone to occur when the daily dose is 25 mg/kg or more). Visual changes can be unilateral or bilateral. 2. The less common symptoms are chills, joint swelling and pain (especially the big toe, condyle, and knee joints), and a feeling of heat and tension on the surface of the affected joints (acute gout, hyperuricemia). 3. The rarest symptoms are allergic reactions such as rash, fever, and joint pain; or numbness, tingling, burning pain, or weakness in the hands and feet (peripheral neuritis).

Precautions

It is contraindicated for those who are allergic to any ingredient of this drug.

Drug Interactions

1. Used in combination with ethionamide, it may increase adverse reactions. 2. Used in combination with aluminum hydroxide, it may reduce the absorption of this product. 3. Used in combination with neurotoxic drugs, it may increase the neurotoxicity of this product, such as optic neuritis or peripheral neuritis.
