Piperazine has the effect of paralyzing the muscles of roundworms. Its mechanism may be that piperazine exerts an anticholinergic effect at the neuromuscular junction of the worm body, blocks the excitatory effect of acetylcholine on the muscles of roundworms, or changes the permeability of the muscle cell membrane of the worm body to ions, affecting the transmission of nerve impulses; it can also inhibit the production of succinate, reduce the supply of energy, block the neuromuscular junction, and prevent the impulse from being delivered. As a result, the roundworms are detached from the parasitic site and excreted from the body with intestinal peristalsis. Ascaris does not show excitatory effects before paralysis, so it is safer to use this product. This product has no effect on roundworm larvae, and its effect on the muscles of mammals is also very weak. Its mechanism of action on pinworms is not yet clear.

Oral administration, no need to fast, those with constipation need to take laxatives. 1. The usual dose for adults to remove roundworms is 2.5~3g once, taken before bedtime, for 2 consecutive days. For children, it is 80~130mg/kg per day according to body weight, and the daily dose should not exceed 2.5g, taken before bedtime, for 2 consecutive days. 2. The usual dose for adults to remove pinworms is 1.5~2g per day, taken in 2 divided doses, for 7~10 consecutive days. For children, it is 50mg/kg per day according to body weight, taken in 2 divided doses, and the daily dose should not exceed 2g, for 7~10 consecutive days.

1. This product has low toxicity and mild side effects. It may occasionally cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, paresthesia, urticaria, etc., which disappear quickly after stopping the drug. Allergic people may experience tearing, runny nose, cough, dizziness, drowsiness, asthma, etc. 2. Cataract formation and hemolytic anemia (seen in people with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency) are relatively rare.

It is contraindicated for patients with liver and kidney dysfunction, neurological diseases or a history of allergy to this product.

Precautions for children: This product has potential neuromuscular toxicity to children, and long-term or excessive use should be avoided. Precautions for pregnancy and lactation: Not yet clear. Precautions for the elderly: Not yet clear.

1. This product may cause convulsions when used together with chlorpromazine, so it should be avoided. 2. It has an antagonistic effect when used together with pyrantel. 3. After animals take piperazine and nitrite orally, piperazine can be converted into nitroso compounds in the stomach to form N,N-dinitropiperazine or N-mononitropiperazine, both of which are carcinogens for animals. After healthy non-smoking men were given piperazine syrup (containing 480 mg) orally on an empty stomach, a considerable amount of N-mononitropiperazine was also detected in their gastric juice and excreted in the urine, but N,N-dinitropiperazine was not found.
