Pilocarpine nitrate eye drops

Pilocarpine is a direct-acting cholinergic drug that works by directly stimulating muscarinic receptors located on the pupillary sphincter, ciliary body, and secretory glands. Pilocarpine contracts the pupillary sphincter, causing the peripheral iris to leave the anterior wall of the angle, opening the angle and increasing the discharge of aqueous humor. At the same time, this product also contracts the longitudinal fibers of the ciliary muscle, increases the tension of the scleral process, opens the trabecular meshwork gap, reduces the resistance to aqueous humor drainage, increases the discharge of aqueous humor, and reduces intraocular pressure.

The main ingredient of this product is pilocarpine nitrate.

This product is a colorless clear liquid.

1. Used for acute angle-closure glaucoma, chronic angle-closure glaucoma, open-angle glaucoma, secondary glaucoma, etc. 2. This product can be used in combination with other miotic agents, beta-blockers, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, sympathomimetic drugs or hypertonic dehydrating agents to treat glaucoma. After ophthalmoscopy, this product can be used to reduce pupils to offset the effects of ciliary muscle paralytics or mydriatic drugs.

1. For chronic glaucoma, 0.5% to 4% solution, 1 drop at a time, 1 to 4 times a day. 2. For acute angle-closure glaucoma, 1% to 2% solution, 1 drop at a time, every 5 to 10 minutes, 3 to 6 times, every 1 to 3 hours until the intraocular pressure drops (Note: the fellow eye should be instilled once every 6 to 8 hours to prevent the onset of angle-closure glaucoma in the fellow eye). 3. Miosis: To counteract the mydriasis effect, 1% solution should be instilled 2 to 3 times; before goniotomy or external trabeculotomy for congenital glaucoma, 1% solution should be instilled 1 to 2 times; before iridectomy, 2% solution should be instilled 1 drop at a time.

Eye stinging, burning sensation, conjunctival congestion causing ciliary spasm, superficial keratitis, temporal or periocular headache, induced myopia. Eye reactions usually occur at the beginning of treatment and disappear during the course of treatment. Elderly people and patients with lens opacities may experience decreased vision in insufficient lighting. There are rare reports of retinal detachment after the use of miotic agents. Lens opacities may occur with long-term use of this product. Systemic side effects after topical medication are rare, but occasionally in particularly sensitive patients, salivation, sweating, gastrointestinal reactions and bronchospasm may occur after routine topical medication.

1. It is contraindicated for patients with any eye disease that should not cause miosis, such as iridocyclitis, pupillary block glaucoma, etc.; 2. It is contraindicated for patients who are allergic to any ingredient of this product; 3. It should be used with caution in patients with asthma and acute keratitis; 4. It should be used with caution in pregnant women; 5. It should be used with caution in children.

This product has a synergistic effect when used in combination with beta-receptor blockers, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, alpha and beta-adrenergic receptor agonists or hypertonic dehydrating agents. 2. This product combined with latanoprost can reduce the amount of aqueous humor outflow through the uveoscleral pathway and reduce the intraocular pressure lowering effect. 3. Combined use with local anticholinergic drugs will interfere with the intraocular pressure lowering effect of this product. Combined use with an appropriate amount of systemic anticholinergic drugs usually does not affect the intraocular pressure lowering effect of this product because the concentration of systemic drugs reaching the eye is very low.
