Polycresol sulfonate solution

Function and Efficacy

1. Pharmacological action Polycresol sulfonate is a polymer of m-cresol sulfonic acid linked by methylene groups, with varying chain lengths. The pH of the solution is 0.6, and after dilution at 1:200, the pH rises to 2.0. Efficacy and mechanism of action: (1) Anti-bacterial, fungal and protozoal infections; (2) Selectively acts on necrotic tissue and columnar epithelium and denatures them, but has no effect on normal squamous epithelium; (3) Plays a hemostatic role by coagulating plasma proteins and significantly stimulating vasoconstriction. Polycresol sulfonate has a broad spectrum of antibacterial effects, including Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria and certain fungi. It is particularly worth mentioning that it is effective against Ghana, anaerobic bacteria and Trichomonas. There are no reports of drug resistance to this product. 2. Toxicological studies More than 50 years of clinical experience have shown that polycresol sulfonate is non-toxic when applied topically. (1) Acute toxicity: The LD50 of mice after intravenous administration is 360 mg/kg, and after oral administration is 2400 mg/kg; the LD50 of rats after intravenous and oral administration is 400 mg/kg and 3500 mg/kg, respectively. The LD50 of mice is 200 times the human therapeutic dose, and the LD50 of rats is 300 times the human therapeutic dose. (2) Chronic toxicity: Rats and dogs were given 40 times and 9 times the human therapeutic dose, respectively, for 3 months, and no relevant toxic effects were found. The skin tolerance test of polycresol sulfonaldehyde was performed on the hairless back of rats. In the first 10 days of the 14-day observation, polycresol sulfonaldehyde (4%, 11% and 36%) was applied, which only caused transient skin redness, which lasted until the third application and then disappeared. (3) Reproductive toxicity: Studies on pregnant rats and rabbits have shown that polycresol sulfonaldehyde has no embryotoxic or teratogenic effects. (4) Mutagenicity/Carcinogenicity: There is no relevant study on the carcinogenicity of this product. The Ames test shows that polycresol sulfonaldehyde has no mutagenic effect. Although there are currently no research reports on the carcinogenicity of this product, no mutagenic or carcinogenic effects have been found in many years of clinical use.

Appearance

This product is a reddish brown to dark reddish brown liquid.

Indication

1. Gynecology: used to treat cervical erosion, cervicitis, various vaginal infections (such as increased leucorrhea caused by bacteria, trichomonas and fungi), vulvar itching, and pressure ulcers caused by the use of pessaries, hemostasis after cervical polypectomy or biopsy, condyloma acuminatum and accelerate wound healing after electrocoagulation treatment; it can also be used to prevent mastitis (burning of nipple fissures). 2. Surgery and dermatology: used for local treatment of skin wounds and lesions (such as burns, limb ulcers, bedsores, chronic inflammation, etc.), can accelerate the shedding of necrotic tissue, hemostasis and promote the healing process and for the treatment of condyloma acuminatum. 3. Otolaryngology: used to treat inflammation of the oral mucosa and gums, oral ulcers and hemostasis after tonsillectomy.

Usage and Dosage

Gynecology: When used for vaginal douching, the sibirin solution should be diluted with water at a ratio of 1:5. When used for local application or compress, it does not need to be diluted. Usually, the compress is applied 1-2 times a week. Before treatment, the cervix and cervical canal should be thoroughly cleaned to remove secretions. To this end, a cotton swab soaked in sibirin solution can be inserted into the cervical canal, rotated several times and removed, and then a gauze piece soaked in the solution can be gently applied to the lesion tissue for 1-3 minutes. Generally, applying for 1-2 minutes can achieve the purpose of hemostasis. Surgery and dermatology: In order to stop bleeding from the wound, a gauze piece soaked in sibirin solution can be pressed on the bleeding site for 1-2 minutes. After the bleeding stops, it is best to wipe off the residual solution. The same method can also be used to treat local burns, bedsores and limb ulcers to make the necrotic tissue easier to fall off. In these cases, the effect is better if sibirin ointment is continued to be used. For lesions of the oral mucosa and gums, the mouth must be rinsed thoroughly after treatment with sibirin solution.

Adverse Reactions

In the early stages of using spirulina, local irritation symptoms may sometimes occur, but they disappear quickly on their own. When treating oral lesions, please note that its high acidity may damage tooth enamel.

Precautions

During pregnancy, especially in the late stages of pregnancy, any local treatment within the cervix should be avoided. External cervical and vaginal cauterization can only be performed in extremely special circumstances. Spiraxin is no exception. At this time, the potential harm of the drug to mother and child should be fully considered. Although animal experiments have shown that this drug has no teratogenic effect, the results of human experiments have not yet been obtained, and it is not clear whether the active ingredients of this drug will be contained in the breast milk of lactating women.

Special Population Medication

Precautions for children: This experiment has not been conducted and there is no reliable reference. Precautions for pregnancy and lactation: During pregnancy, especially in the third trimester, any intracervical treatment should be avoided, and external cervical and vaginal cauterization can only be performed in extremely special circumstances. Polyphenol sulfonaldehyde is no exception. At this time, the potential harm of the drug to mother and baby should be fully considered. Although animal experiments have shown that this drug has no teratogenic effect, the results of human experiments have not yet been obtained, and it is not clear whether the active ingredients of this drug will be contained in the breast milk of lactating women. Precautions for the elderly: Do not use reliable references if this experiment has not been conducted.

Drug Interactions

Spiraline can only be applied topically. Since interactions with other drugs cannot be ruled out, avoid using more than two drugs at the same time in the same area.
