Cephalexin and Trimethoprim Tablets

Cephalexin is a first-generation cephalosporin with an antibacterial spectrum similar to that of cephalothin, but its antibacterial activity is poorer than that of the latter. Except for Enterococcus and resistant Staphylococci, most strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae, hemolytic Streptococcus, and Staphylococcus aureus that produces or does not produce penicillinase are sensitive to this product. This product has a good antibacterial effect on Neisseria, but Haemophilus influenzae is less sensitive to this product. This product has a certain antibacterial effect on some Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Salmonella and Shigella. The remaining Enterobacteriaceae, Acinetobacter, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Bacteroides fragilis are resistant to this product. Fusobacterium and Veillonella are generally sensitive to this product, and anaerobic Gram-positive cocci are moderately sensitive to this product. Trimethoprim is an antibacterial agent, and its mechanism of action is to interfere with bacterial folate metabolism.

This product is a compound preparation, each tablet containing 0.125g of cephalexin and 0.025g of trimethoprim.

It is used for acute tonsillitis, pharyngitis, otitis media, sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia and other respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections and skin and soft tissue infections caused by sensitive bacteria.

Oral administration. Adults: 1-2 tablets at a time, 4 times a day. Children: Reduce the dosage or follow the doctor's advice.

1. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal discomfort are more common. 2. Allergic reactions such as rash and drug fever are rare, and anaphylactic shock may occur occasionally. 3. Some patients may experience neurological reactions such as dizziness, diplopia, tinnitus, and convulsions. 4. Renal damage is rare during the use of this product. 5. Occasionally, patients have elevated serum aminotransferase and positive Coombs test. Hemolytic anemia is rare, and neutropenia and pseudomembranous colitis have also been reported. 6. Trimethoprim's interference with folic acid metabolism can produce adverse reactions in the blood system, and leukopenia, thrombocytopenia or methemoglobin anemia may occur. Generally, leukopenia and thrombocytopenia are mild, and can be recovered by stopping the drug in time. Folic acid preparations can also be added.

1. Patients who are allergic to cephalosporins or penicillin are prohibited from using this product. 2. Patients who are allergic to trimethoprim are prohibited from using this product. 3. Neonates and premature infants are prohibited from using this product. 4. Patients with severe liver and kidney diseases are prohibited from using this product. 5. Patients with blood diseases are prohibited from using this product.

Precautions for children: It is contraindicated for newborns and premature infants. Precautions during pregnancy and lactation: 1. This product can cross the blood-placental barrier. Although it has not been confirmed to have teratogenic effects in human applications, it has teratogenic effects on rats and rabbits. Its mechanism of action is to interfere with folic acid metabolism. The drug concentration in the fetal circulation and amniotic fluid is close to the maternal blood concentration. Therefore, the use of this product during pregnancy must be decided after weighing the pros and cons. 2. This product can be secreted into breast milk with a high concentration, and the drug may interfere with the folic acid metabolism of breastfeeding infants. Therefore, although the problem has not been confirmed in humans, the use of this product in nursing mothers must be decided after weighing the pros and cons. Precautions for the elderly: Elderly patients are prone to folic acid deficiency when using this product, and the dosage should be reduced as appropriate.

1. When used in combination with cholestyramine (cholestyramine), the average blood concentration of cephalexin can be reduced. 2. Probenecid can delay the renal excretion of this product, and there are also reports that probenecid can increase the excretion of this product in bile. 3. When bone marrow suppressants are used in combination with this product, the chances of leukopenia and thrombocytopenia increase. 4. This product should not be used simultaneously with the anti-tumor drug 2,4-diaminopyrimidine, nor should it be used between courses of treatment with other folic acid antagonists, because it may cause bone marrow aplasia or megaloblastic anemia. 5. Co-use of cyclosporine can increase renal toxicity.
