Drug Interactions
1 Drinking large amounts of alcoholic and caffeinated beverages and smoking large amounts of cigarettes will inhibit the absorption of oral calcium supplements. 2 Eating large amounts of foods rich in fiber can inhibit the absorption of calcium, because calcium combines with cellulose to form compounds that are not easily absorbed. 3 This product is used with phenytoin sodium and tetracyclines, and the absorption of both is reduced. 4 Vitamin D, birth control pills, and estrogen can increase calcium absorption. 5 When aluminum-containing antacids are taken with this product, aluminum absorption increases. 6 When used with calcium channel blockers (such as nifedipine), blood calcium can be significantly increased to above normal, but the effects of verapamil hydrochloride and the like are reduced.
