Azelastine Hydrochloride Eye Drops
Function and Efficacy
Azelastine hydrochloride is a selective histamine H1 receptor antagonist that can inhibit the release of histamine and allergic reactions mediated by other cells (such as mast cells). In vitro studies on human cell lines have shown that azelastine hydrochloride can inhibit the release of allergic mediators (such as leukotrienes and platelet-activating factor), reduce their chemotaxis, and increase the activity of erythrophagocytes. Studies on mice and rats have found that azelastine hydrochloride has carcinogenic, teratogenic, and mutagenic effects.
