Function and Efficacy

This product is a selective 5-hydroxytryptamine 3 (5-HT3) receptor antagonist. Its mechanism of action is not yet fully understood, but it may be through antagonizing the 5-HT3 receptors in the peripheral vagus nerve endings and central chemoreceptor areas, thereby blocking the vomiting reflex caused by factors such as chemotherapy and surgery that promote the release of 5-hydroxytryptamine from intestinal chromaffin cells and excite the vagus afferent nerves. This product has high selectivity and no side effects such as extrapyramidal reactions and excessive sedation.

Ingredients

Appearance

This product is a colorless or almost colorless clear liquid.

Indication

Ondansetron hydrochloride and sodium chloride injection is used for nausea and vomiting caused by leukotoxic chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and is also suitable for the prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting after surgery.

Usage and Dosage

This product is for intravenous drip. The dosage and route of administration depend on the severity of vomiting. The adult dose is generally 8 mg (1 bottle) per day. For vomiting caused by highly emetic chemotherapy drugs, 8 mg (1 bottle) of this product should be intravenously dripped 30 minutes before chemotherapy, 4 hours after chemotherapy, and 8 hours after chemotherapy, and 8 mg tablets should be taken orally every 8 to 12 hours after chemotherapy is stopped; for vomiting caused by chemotherapy drugs that are not so emetic, 8 mg (1 bottle) of this product should be intravenously dripped 30 minutes before chemotherapy, and 8 mg tablets should be taken orally every 8 to 12 hours thereafter for 5 consecutive days; for vomiting caused by radiotherapy, the first dose should be taken orally 1 to 2 hours before radiotherapy, and 8 mg tablets should be taken orally every 8 hours thereafter. For the prevention or treatment of postoperative vomiting, adults can intravenously drip 4 mg of this product at the same time as anesthesia induction. For postoperative vomiting that has occurred, 4 mg of this product can be slowly dripped intravenously for treatment. The infusion time should be no less than 15 minutes.

Adverse Reactions

There may be headache, a warm feeling in the head and upper abdomen, abdominal discomfort, constipation, dry mouth, rash, local reaction at the injection site, occasional bronchial asthma or allergic reaction, and temporary asymptomatic transaminase elevation. The above reactions are generally mild and do not require special treatment. There are rare reports of movement disorders, epileptic seizures, chest pain, arrhythmia, hypotension, bradycardia, etc.

Precautions

It is contraindicated for those who have allergic reactions to this product or those with gastrointestinal obstruction.

Drug Interactions

1. Clinical application: In the prevention and treatment of acute vomiting, the efficacy of ondansetron combined with dexamethasone is significantly better than that of ondansetron alone. 2. It has been reported that the antihypertensive effect of calcium channel blockers is also enhanced when used in combination with isohydroxydigitoxin or cimetidine. The antihypertensive effect of this drug may also be enhanced when used in combination with other antihypertensive drugs, so care should be taken when using it. 3. This product cannot be mixed with other drugs in the same syringe or injected at the same time.
