Vinblastine Sulfate
Function and Efficacy
Vinblastine is an alkaloid with anti-cancer activity extracted from the Apocynaceae plant Catharanthus roseus. It mainly inhibits the polymerization of tubulin, hinders the formation of spindle microtubules, and stops mitosis at metaphase. It can also act on the cell membrane, interfere with the transport of amino acids by the cell membrane, inhibit protein synthesis, and inhibit RNA synthesis. Vinblastine has a wide anti-tumor spectrum. At a dose of 0.05-0.1 mg/kg, it has obvious anti-tumor activity against mouse L1210 leukemia, Ehrlich ascites carcinoma, S180, C3H mouse spontaneous and metastatic breast cancer, etc. It also has an inhibitory effect on the growth of choriocarcinoma cells transplanted in hamster cheek pouches.

Appearance
This product is a white or off-white loose or amorphous solid, hygroscopic, and easily turns yellow when exposed to light or heat.
Indication
It is mainly used for the treatment of solid tumors. It has good effects on malignant lymphoma, testicular tumors, choriocarcinoma, lung cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, skin cancer, Wilms tumor and monocytic leukemia. It can also be used to treat Hodgkin's disease and malignant lymphoma, and choriocarcinoma and breast cancer.
Usage and Dosage
Intravenous injection: 10 mg (or 6 mg/m2) per time for adults, dissolved in normal saline, once a week, a total of 60 mg to 80 mg (or 10 mg/m2) per course of treatment. For children, 0.1 mg to 0.15 mg/kg per time, once a week, based on body weight.
Adverse Reactions
1. Hematological toxicity: It is a dose-limiting toxicity. The bone marrow suppression effect is stronger than that of vincristine and recovers quickly after drug withdrawal. 2. Gastrointestinal reactions: decreased appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, stomatitis, etc. 3. Peripheral neurotoxicity: numbness of the finger (toe) tips, pain in the limbs, muscle tremors, loss of tendon reflexes, etc. 4. Local irritation: Thrombophlebitis may occur in the injected blood vessel, and leakage outside the blood vessel may cause local tissue necrosis. 5. Others: A small number of patients may experience postural hypotension, hair loss, insomnia, headache, etc.
Precautions
Not yet clear.
Drug Interactions
If there are other drugs that reduce white blood cells in the combined chemotherapy regimen, the dosage should be reduced. In case of liver dysfunction, if other anticancer drugs excreted by bile (such as doxorubicin) are used at the same time, the dosage should be reduced. When used in combination with allopurinol, colchicine or probenecid, vinblastine can increase the concentration of uric acid in the blood.
Storage
Store in a cool, dark place away from light.
