Clonidine patch

Contains clonidine, which has a central blood pressure lowering effect.

The main ingredient of this product is: clonidine. Molecular formula: C9H9Cl2N3HCl

A round or square patch with an adhesive film on the application surface.

Used for hypertension.

Take out the product, peel off the protective layer, and apply it to the dry skin behind the ear. Adult patients should use one patch (2.5cm2) for the first time, and then adjust the area of each patch (reduce or increase) according to the degree of blood pressure drop. If there is still no effect after increasing to three patches (75cm2) and the adverse reactions are obvious, you should consider stopping the drug. Use a new patch after three days of use.

Most adverse reactions are mild and tend to improve with continued treatment. The most common (dose-related) are dry mouth (about 40%), drowsiness (about 33%), dizziness (about 16%), constipation (about 10%), and sedation (about 10%). The following adverse reactions have been reported in very few patients taking clonidine hydrochloride at the same time, and the causal relationship between the drug and these adverse reactions has not been determined. 1. Systemic reactions Weakness (about 10%), fatigue (about 4%), headache (about 1%), and withdrawal syndrome (about 1%). In addition, pallor; weak positive Coombs' test; increased sensitivity to alcohol and fever. 2. Cardiovascular system Occasionally, orthostatic symptoms (about 3%), palpitations and tachycardia (about 0.5%), and bradycardia (about 0.5%) are seen. Raynaud's phenomenon, congestive heart failure and electrocardiogram abnormalities (i.e., sinus node inhibition, functional bradycardia, excessive AV block and arrhythmia). Sinus node bradycardia and atrioventricular block are occasionally seen in rare cases with or without digoxin. 3. Central nervous system nervousness and agitation (about 3%), depression (about 1%) and insomnia (about 0.5%). Behavioral changes, fantasies or nightmares, restlessness, anxiety, visual and auditory hallucinations and delirium are occasionally seen. 4. Dermatological rash (about 1%), pruritus (about 0.7%), urticaria and angioedema (about 0.5%) and alopecia (about 0.2%). 5. Gastrointestinal nausea and vomiting (about 5%), anorexia (about 1%) and gastrointestinal discomfort (about 1%), mild short-term liver function test abnormalities (about 1%), and occasionally hepatitis, mumps, constipation, pseudo-obstruction and abdominal pain. 6. Genitourinary system Decreased sexual activity, impotence and loss of libido (approximately 3%); nocturia (approximately 1%); dysuria (approximately 0.2%); urinary retention (approximately 1%). 7. Hematology: Occasionally thrombocytopenia. 8. Metabolism: Weight gain (approximately 1%), gynecomastia (approximately 0.1%), and occasional short-term increase in blood sugar or serum creatine phosphokinase. 9. Musculoskeletal muscle or joint pain (approximately 0.6%) and leg cramps (approximately 0.3%). 10. Oral-otolaryngology: Occasionally dry nasal mucosa. 11. Ophthalmology: Dry eyes, burning sensation and blurred vision.

It is contraindicated for patients with depression.

Clonidine may enhance the CNS depressant effects of alcohol, barbiturates, or other sedatives. If a patient taking clonidine hydrochloride is also taking a tricyclic antidepressant, the antihypertensive effect of clonidine may be reduced, thus necessitating an increase in the dose. Patients taking clonidine with drugs that affect sinus node function or AV conduction, such as digoxin, calcium channel blockers, and beta-blockers, should be used with caution because additive effects such as bradycardia and AV block may occur. Amitriptyline and clonidine coadministered with clonidine have accelerated corneal damage in rats (see TOXICOLOGY).
