Vitamin D3
Function and Efficacy
This product is a vitamin drug. Vitamin D2 promotes the absorption of calcium by the brush border of the small intestinal mucosa and the reabsorption of phosphorus by the renal tubules, increases the concentrations of blood calcium and phosphorus, and cooperates with parathyroid hormone and calcitonin to promote the release of calcium phosphate from old bones, maintaining and regulating normal plasma calcium and phosphorus concentrations. Vitamin D2 promotes the deposition of calcium in new bone formation sites, deposits citrate in bones, promotes bone calcification and the maturation of osteoblast function and bone-like tissue. After vitamin D2 is ingested, it is catalyzed by the 25-hydroxylase system in the cell microsomes to produce calcidiol (25-OHD3), which is catalyzed by the 1-hydroxylase system in the renal proximal tubular cells to produce biologically active calcitriol (1-25-(OH)2D3).

Indication
1. Improve the body's absorption of calcium and phosphorus, so that the levels of plasma calcium and plasma phosphorus reach saturation. 2. Promote growth and bone calcification, and promote healthy teeth. 3. Increase the absorption of phosphorus through the intestinal wall and increase the reabsorption of phosphorus through the renal tubules. 4. Maintain the normal level of citrate in the blood. 5. Prevent the loss of amino acids through the kidneys. It is used for rickets, osteomalacia and infantile tetany. It can also be used to prevent and treat rickets with dental caries. Large doses are also used for skin tuberculosis, skin and mucous membrane lupus erythematosus, etc.
Adverse Reactions
1. Constipation, diarrhea, persistent headache, loss of appetite, metallic taste in the mouth, nausea and vomiting, thirst, fatigue, and weakness. 2. Bone pain, cloudy urine, convulsions, high blood pressure, increased eye sensitivity to light stimulation, arrhythmia, occasional mental abnormalities, itchy skin, myalgia, severe abdominal pain (sometimes misdiagnosed as pancreatitis), polyuria at night, and weight loss.
Precautions
Hypercalcemia, hypervitaminosis D, and hyperphosphatemia with renal rickets.
Drug Interactions
1. The use of magnesium-containing antacids and vitamin D3 together can cause hypermagnesemia, especially in patients with chronic renal failure. 2. Barbiturates, phenytoin sodium, anticonvulsants, primidone, etc. can reduce the effect of vitamin D3. Therefore, vitamin D3 should be supplemented when taking anticonvulsants for a long time to prevent osteomalacia. 3. The use of calcitonin and vitamin D3 together can offset the efficacy of the former on hypercalcemia. 4. The use of large amounts of calcium or diuretics with common doses of vitamin D3 may cause the risk of hypercalcemia. 5. Be cautious when using digitalis and vitamin D3 together, because if vitamin D causes hypercalcemia, it can easily induce arrhythmias. 6. The use of large amounts of phosphorus-containing drugs together with vitamin D3 can induce hyperphosphatemia.
