Valacyclovir Hydrochloride Capsules
Function and Efficacy
When acyclovir is phosphorylated to form an active triphosphate form, it can inhibit the synthesis of herpes virus DNA. The first step of phosphorylation requires the activity of a virus-specific enzyme. For HSV, VZV, and EBV, the enzyme is viral thymidine kinase (TK), which is only present in cells infected by the virus. The selectivity of cytomegalovirus phosphorylation is achieved at least in part by the phosphotransferase gene product UL97. Therefore, the selectivity of acyclovir is related to the activation of the virus's specific enzyme. The further phosphorylation process is completed by cellular kinases (converted from monophosphate to triphosphate). Acyclovir triphosphate completely inhibits viral DNA polymerase and penetrates into the DNA chain, resulting in mandatory chain termination, interrupting DNA synthesis, thereby preventing viral replication.

Special Population Medication
Precautions for children: The safety and effectiveness of the drug for children have not yet been determined. Precautions for pregnancy and lactation: Acyclovir can pass through the placenta when used by pregnant and lactating women, so pregnant women need to weigh the pros and cons when using the drug. The concentration of acyclovir in breast milk is 0.6 to 4.1 times the blood concentration, so lactating women should use it with caution. Precautions for the elderly: Due to the decline of physiological renal function, the dosage and medication interval of this product need to be adjusted.
