Indication

Used for type 2 diabetes mellitus in which diet, physical exercise and weight loss cannot satisfactorily control blood sugar.

Usage and Dosage

Take the medication orally as directed by your doctor. For patients with diabetes, there is no fixed dose for glimepiride or any other hypoglycemic drug. Fasting blood glucose and glycated hemoglobin must be measured regularly to determine the minimum effective dose of the patient's medication; glycated hemoglobin levels must be measured to monitor the patient's treatment effect. Usual starting dose: In the initial treatment stage, the starting dose of glimepiride is 1-2 mg once a day, administered at breakfast or the first main meal. Those patients who are sensitive to hypoglycemic drugs should start with 1 mg once a day, and the dose should be adjusted with caution. There is no precise dosage relationship between glimepiride and other oral hypoglycemic drugs. The maximum initial dose of glimepiride does not exceed 2 mg. Adverse Reactions

1. Hypoglycemia: This product can cause hypoglycemia, especially in the elderly and weak patients at the beginning of treatment, those who eat irregularly, drink alcohol, and those with liver and kidney damage. According to reports, the incidence rate is 2%. 2. Digestive system symptoms: Nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain are rare. 3. There are individual cases reported that serum liver transaminases are elevated. 4. Skin allergic reactions: itching, erythema, and urticaria are rare. 5. Others: Headache, fatigue, and dizziness are rare.

Precautions

1. Patients with known allergic history to glimepiride are contraindicated. 2. Patients with diabetic ketoacidosis with or without coma are contraindicated, and insulin should be used for treatment in this case. 3. Pregnant women, women in labor, and breastfeeding women are contraindicated.

Drug Interactions

1. The effect of this product can be enhanced when used in combination with salicylates, sulfonamides, phenylbutazone, anti-tuberculosis drugs, tetracyclines, monoamine oxidase inhibitors, beta-blockers, chloramphenicol, coumarins and cyclophosphamide. 2. Chlorpromazine, sympathomimetic drugs, corticosteroids, thyroid hormones, oral contraceptives and niacin preparations can reduce the hypoglycemic effect of this product. 3. This product can reduce the patient's tolerance to alcohol, and alcohol may also enhance the hypoglycemic effect of the drug.
