Antibacterial effect of honeysuckle: This product has an inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus albus, type A hemolytic streptococcus, type B hemolytic streptococcus, non-hemolytic streptococcus, Salmonella typhi, Shigella dysenteriae, human tuberculosis, and Pneumococcus in vitro. The water extract of this product has a stronger antibacterial effect than the decoction. Other effects: When fasting rats are given a large amount of cholesterol, such as taking honeysuckle (2.5g/kg), the blood cholesterol level is lower than that of the control group, so honeysuckle seems to reduce the intestinal absorption of cholesterol. The fluid extract has no significant effect on the respiration, blood pressure and urine volume of rabbits and dogs, the respiratory amplitude is slightly increased, and the blood pressure changes slightly, but not consistent; oral or injection, the absorption is incomplete; it has a local irritating effect. The toxicity is very small, and the median lethal dose of subcutaneous injection in mice is 53g/kg. It is also reported that the hot water extract of honeysuckle has a mild preventive effect on pyloric ligation gastric ulcers in rats. Other effects: Forsythia suspensa can inhibit the emetic effect of digitalis and reduce the number of vomiting, but does not change the incubation period of vomiting. Its antiemetic effect is similar to that of chlorpromazine 2 hours after injection. It can also inhibit vomiting caused by subcutaneous injection of apomorphine in dogs. Therefore, it is speculated that the principle of its antiemetic effect may be to inhibit the emetic chemical receptor area of the medulla oblongata. The peel of Forsythia suspensa contains oleanolic acid (also known as olive folic acid), so it has cardiotonic and diuretic effects.
