Erythromycin suppositories
Function and Efficacy
This product belongs to the macrolide antibiotics. It has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus (except methicillin-resistant strains), various groups of streptococci and Gram-positive bacilli. Neisseria, Haemophilus influenzae, Bordetella pertussis, etc. are also sensitive to this product. This product also has antibacterial effects on various anaerobic bacteria except Bacteroides fragilis and Fusobacterium. It also has inhibitory effects on Legionella, Campylobacter fetus, certain spirochetes, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Rickettsia and Chlamydia. This product can penetrate the bacterial cell membrane and reversibly bind to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome near the donor site ("P" site), blocking the transfer RNA (t-RNA) from binding to the "P" site, and also blocking the displacement of the polypeptide chain from the acceptor site ("A" site) to the "P" site, thereby inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis.

Precautions for pregnancy and lactation: 1. Erythromycin can pass through the placenta and enter the fetal circulation. The concentration is generally not high, and there is no report on the effect on the fetus in the literature, but pregnant women should still weigh the pros and cons when using it. 2. A considerable amount of erythromycin enters breast milk, and the pros and cons should be considered when using it in lactating women. Precautions for the elderly: Not yet clear.
Drug Interactions
1. Erythromycin can inhibit the metabolism of antiepileptic drugs such as carbamazepine and valproic acid, resulting in increased blood concentrations of the latter and toxic reactions. The combination of erythromycin and fentanyl can inhibit the metabolism of the latter and prolong its duration of action. The combination of erythromycin and antihistamines such as astemizole or terfenadine can increase cardiac toxicity, and the combination with cyclosporine can increase the blood concentration of the latter and produce nephrotoxicity. 2. Erythromycin has an antagonistic effect on chloramphenicol and lincomycins, and its co-use is not recommended. 3. This product is an antibacterial agent and can interfere with the bactericidal efficacy of penicillin. Therefore, when a rapid bactericidal effect is required, such as in the treatment of meningitis, the two should not be used at the same time. 4. Patients who have been taking warfarin for a long time may experience a prolonged prothrombin time when using erythromycin, thereby increasing the risk of bleeding. Elderly patients should pay special attention. When the two must be used together,
