Function and Efficacy

Indication
1. It is used for constipation and abnormal intestinal fermentation. It can also be used with anthelmintics. It can be used with activated carbon to treat food or drug poisoning. 2. It is used for obstructive jaundice and chronic cholecystitis. 3. It is used for convulsions, eclampsia, uremia, tetanus, hypertensive encephalopathy and acute renal hypertensive crisis. 4. It is also used for patients with frequent angina pectoris who are not well treated by other treatments. It is more effective for patients with hypertension. 5. It can be used for external hot compresses to reduce inflammation and swelling.
Usage and Dosage
1. Catharsis: Take 5-20g orally each time, usually on an empty stomach in the morning, and drink 100-400ml of water at the same time. It can also be dissolved in water and taken. 2. Choleretic: Take 2-5g each time, 3 times a day, before meals or between meals. You can also take 33% solution, 10ml each time. 3. Anticonvulsant, blood pressure lowering, etc.: Intramuscular injection of 25% solution, 4-10ml each time; or dilute 10ml of 25% solution with 5%-10% glucose injection to 1% or 5% concentration and drip intravenously; for the treatment of angina pectoris, 10ml of 10% solution can be diluted with 10ml of 5%-10% glucose injection and slowly injected intravenously, once a day, for 10 consecutive days.
Adverse Reactions
If the concentration is too high during catharsis, it may cause dehydration; ulcers and damage to the gastrointestinal tract may easily lead to excessive absorption of magnesium ions and cause poisoning.

Precautions during pregnancy and lactation: It is forbidden to use during lactation.
Drug Interactions
Drugs that are contraindicated with magnesium sulfate include polymyxin B sulfate, streptomycin sulfate, calcium gluconate, dobutamine hydrochloride, procaine hydrochloride, tetracycline, penicillin, and nafcillin (ethoxynaphthalene penicillin).
