Appearance

This product is white or slightly yellowish tablets with scattered small yellow spots on the surface.

Indication

(1) It is used to prevent and treat scurvy. It can also be used as an auxiliary treatment for various acute and chronic infectious diseases and purpura. When patients with Keshan disease develop cardiogenic shock, they can be treated with large doses of this product. (2) It is used to treat chronic iron poisoning (vitamin C promotes the complexation of iron by deferoxamine, which accelerates the excretion of iron). (3) It is effective in treating idiopathic methemoglobinemia. (4) It is used to treat liver damage caused by cirrhosis, acute hepatitis, and chronic poisoning by arsenic, mercury, lead, benzene, etc.

Usage and Dosage

Oral administration. For adults. (1) Dietary supplement: 50-100 mg per day. (2) Chronic dialysis patients: 100-200 mg per day. (3) Vitamin C deficiency: 100-200 mg once, 3 times a day. Take for at least 2 weeks. Children: 100-300 mg per day, take for at least 2 weeks. (4) Acidification of urine: 4-12 g per day, taken in divided doses, once every 4 hours. (5) Idiopathic methemoglobinemia: 300-600 mg per day, taken in divided doses.

Adverse Reactions

(1) Long-term use of 2 to 3 g per day may cause scurvy after discontinuation of the drug. (2) Long-term use of large amounts of vitamin C may occasionally cause urate, cysteine, or oxalate stones. (3) Large amounts (more than 1 g per day) may cause diarrhea, red and shiny skin, headache, frequent urination (when the daily dose is more than 600 mg), nausea, vomiting, and stomach cramps.

Precautions for children: Precautions for pregnancy and lactation: This product can pass through the placenta and be secreted into breast milk. Drug Interactions

(1) Oral administration of large doses of vitamin C (greater than 10g per day) can interfere with the anticoagulant effect of anticoagulants. (2) Combination with barbiturates or primidone can increase the excretion of vitamin C. (3) Sodium cellulose phosphate can promote the metabolism of vitamin C into oxalate. (4) Long-term or large-scale use of vitamin C can interfere with the effect of disulfiram on ethanol. (5) Salicylic acid can increase the excretion of vitamin C. (6) Combination with levodopa can reduce the efficacy of levodopa. (7) Combination with heparin or warfarin can cause a shortening of the prothrombin time.
