Product Details

Phenothiazine is an organic compound with a molecular formula of C12H9NS and a molecular weight of 199.272. It is a yellow to green-gray powder or flake crystal; easily soluble in benzene, ether and hot acetic acid, slightly soluble in alcohol and mineral oil, almost insoluble in petroleum ether, chloroform and water.

The colour becomes darker after long-term storage, is easily oxidized in sunlight, and can sublimate. Mainly used as an excellent polymerization inhibitor for alkenyl monomers in the production of acrylic acid, acrylate, methacrylate, and vinyl acetate. It is also used in the synthesis of drugs, dyes, polyethers, antioxidants and rubber antioxidants. And also used as anthelmintic for livestock and insecticide for fruit trees.

PHENOTHIAZINE is slowly decomposed by sunlight. (NTP, 1992). Organosulfides are incompatible with acids, diazo and azo compounds, halocarbons, isocyanates, aldehydes, alkali metals, nitrides, hydrides, and other strong reducing agents. Reactions with these materials generate heat and in many cases hydrogen gas. Many of these compounds may liberate hydrogen sulfide upon decomposition or reaction with an acid.
