Mode of action

Glyphosate mainly hinders the biosynthesis of aromatic amino acids, namely phenylalanine, tryptophan and tyrosine through the shikimic acid pathway. It has an inhibitory effect on 5-enolpyruvyl shikimic acid 3-phosphate synthase (EPSP synthase), which catalyzes the conversion of shikimic acid 3-phosphate and enolacetone phosphate to 5-enolpyruvyl shikimic acid 3-phosphate (EPSP), so glyphosate interferes with this enzymatic reaction of biosynthesis, resulting in the accumulation of shikimic acid in organisms. [4] Glyphosate can also inhibit the activity of other plant enzymes [5][6] and animal enzymes [Chemicalbook7]. Glyphosate is metabolized very slowly in higher plants, and its metabolites have been tested as aminomethylphosphonic acid and methylamino acetic acid. Because glyphosate has high operating performance, slow degradation performance and high plant toxicity in plants, it is an ideal herbicide for the control of perennial weeds. [8] Cultivation of plants resistant to glyphosate is currently being studied. Biochemists screened out microbes that contained excess EPSP and introduced the genes into tobacco and soybean tissues to create plants capable of glyphosate.

Purpose
