Chemical Name: Potassium sorbate

CAS: 590-00-1

Character: White to light yellow, flaky crystalline granule or powder. Odorless or slight odor. Deliquescent, decomposed, and coloring when stored in air for a long time. Relative density is 1.363. Melting point is 270ºC (decomposed). Highly soluble in water. The pH value of aqueous solution with 1% is between 7 and 8.

Usage: Preservative; Mildew-retarding agent.

Packing: Packed with polythene bag as the inner layer and polywoven bag as the outer layer. Net weight of each bag is 25kg.

Storage and Transport: Store in a dry, clean, and ventilative warehouse. Keep away from water and moisture during transport. Unload with care to avoid damaging the bags. Keep away from moisture and heat.

Usage ：
It is mainly used to inhibit the growing of microbe in food.
In the daily living, it can be used to prevent the mildew for soy, wine, edible vinegar and salted vegetables. Only adding 0.1 percent into them, you will find that their taste is better.
In freezing and cold storing foods, especially fish and shrimp, soaking them in the solution of potassium sorbate (0.3%) for 30 seconds, they can keep their original and individual taste.
Adding potassium sorbate to man-made cream and salad oil can prevent sourness and bubble because of fermenting.
If you add potassium sorbate into pastry, biscuit and bread, they will be of better tasty!
The meat which added the potassium sorbate can be store more a week than before.

It is also used for cosmetic, medical health product and preservative for tobacco As unsaturated acid,it also used in resins, spices and rubber industries.

As nowadays international prime preferable food preservatives, their extent of use and reference dosage as follows:
