Mupirocin calcium (dihydrate) is an important raw material drug for antibiotics. Its chemical name is Mupirocin calcium dihydrate, and its CAS number is 115074-43-6.
It is an oral active antibiotic isolated from Fluorescent Pseudomonas. It exerts antibacterial effects by reversibly inhibiting isoleucine transfer RNA, thereby blocking the synthesis of bacterial proteins and RNA.

The appearance is white to off-white crystalline powder.

Pharmacological Effects and Applications
Mupirocin calcium has high antibacterial activity against staphylococci, streptococci, and some Gram-negative bacteria. Its binding rate with human serum protein can reach 95%. When taken orally, it can be well absorbed, but it will rapidly degrade into the active metabolite, a monooxygen acid a, resulting in a shorter duration of serum concentration. Its main application is as an antibiotic pharmaceutical raw material, used for treating skin infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), such as impetigo.
