1. Description

Puri-Xylane, commonly known as Boswellin, is a xylose derivative with anti-aging properties. It promotes collagen synthesis, making the skin more resilient and elastic, reducing fine lines on the neck, and preventing signs of aging. Boswellin is a mixture of glycoproteins derived from xylose. Since xylose is abundant in beech trees and has the ability to promote the production of glucosaminoglycans (GAGs), As a compound extracted from beech trees, Boswellin shares similar properties with xylose. Boswellin is also a non-ionic surfactant with good dispersing and emulsifying properties; consequently, low-concentration Boswellin was initially “underutilized” as an emulsifier or dispersant in skincare products. However, due to the skin barrier and the relatively weak biological activity of betulin itself, it must reach a high concentration on the skin’s surface to increase absorption through osmosis via a concentration gradient. Yet, high-concentration betulin has a high viscosity and is not particularly comfortable to use, so most products contain only a low percentage of betulin.

2. Application

(1) Development of anti-aging skincare products: As a core anti-aging ingredient, it is widely incorporated into skincare products such as serums, face creams, eye creams, and masks to improve skin firmness and elasticity and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. L’Oréal Group has already applied this technology to products across multiple brands.

Clinical studies have shown that a skincare complex containing 3% Pro-Xylane can significantly improve skin firmness, evenness of skin tone, and radiance in postmenopausal women.

(3) Photoaging Protection Research: Used to prevent and improve UV-induced photoaging of the skin by promoting glycosaminoglycan synthesis to restore the function of the skin’s extracellular matrix.

3. Main Efficacy

(1) Promotes the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans: By activating xylose receptors in the skin’s basal layer, Pro-Xylane significantly stimulates the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans. These two components are essential parts of the skin’s extracellular matrix; they bind water to form a gel-like structure, thereby maintaining the skin’s plumpness and elasticity.

(2) Improves skin firmness and elasticity: By strengthening the adhesion at the dermo-epidermal junction and promoting the stability of collagen and elastic fibers, it enhances skin firmness and elasticity. In clinical trials involving postmenopausal women, significant improvements in skin firmness, radiance, and skin tone evenness were observed after 60 days of use (P < 0.05).

(3) Anti-wrinkle and anti-aging effects: By restoring the extracellular matrix structure, it reduces wrinkle depth and number while improving skin texture.
