It acts as a highly selective agonist for the ghrelin/growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R1a). By binding to this receptor, Hexarel powerfully stimulates the pituitary gland to release growth hormone (GH). This action also inhibits somatostatin, a hormone that suppresses GH release, and subsequently elevates levels of Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (IGF-1) in the liver.
