🧪 Physical Properties

• Appearance: A white crystalline powder or crystal, odorless at room temperature. It is highly hygroscopic and easily absorbs moisture from the air.
• Melting Point: Ranges between 199 °C and 200 °C (decomposes upon melting).
• Density: ~1.399–1.87 g/cm³ (heavier than water).
• Solubility: Highly soluble in water (solubility of ~440 g/L at 20 °C) and slightly soluble in methanol. It is practically insoluble in organic solvents such as ether, benzene, acetone, and carbon tetrachloride.

• CAS Number: 3926-62-3.
• Flammability & Reactivity: Classified as non-combustible under normal conditions but can burn when exposed to high heat. When heated to decomposition, it releases highly toxic and corrosive fumes containing hydrogen chloride, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and sodium oxide.
• Incompatibilities: It is generally stable in dry conditions but strictly incompatible with strong oxidizing agents, strong acids, and strong bases.

• Pharmaceutical Manufacturing: Widely utilized as a crucial intermediate for synthesizing amino acids, sedatives, vitamins, adrenaline, and H1 receptor antagonists.
• Agrochemical Production: Serves as a key raw material for manufacturing various pesticides and herbicides.
• Organic & Dye Chemistry: Applied as a building block for synthesizing adhesives, thioglycolic acid, dyes (such as neutral brilliant blue), and printing/dyeing auxiliaries.
• Daily Chemicals & Metal Processing: Used in the production of carboxymethyl cellulose, cosmetic additives, surfactants, and shampoos. In metal processing, it acts as an agent for rust prevention, cleaning, and electroplating.
