Ethyl acrylate is an acrylate monomer primarily used in polymerization reactions to produce various polymer emulsions and resins; it serves as a key solvent and film-forming raw material in the industrial coatings sector. In emulsion polymerization, it is commonly copolymerized with methacrylate, styrene, and vinyl acetate to produce water-based wood finishes, interior and exterior architectural latex paints, and paper coating materials. Once formed, the film exhibits excellent adhesion, weather resistance, and flexibility, and is resistant to cracking and yellowing. It is also widely used as a raw material for adhesives in the production of pressure-sensitive adhesives and water-based composite adhesives, suitable for paper lamination and packaging film coating processes. In the rubber and plastics industry, it serves as a plastic modifier monomer to enhance the impact resistance and low-temperature performance of PVC and rubber products; in the textile sector, it is used to prepare textile printing pastes and fabric coating and finishing agents, imparting water-repellent and soft properties to fabrics. It can also be used in small quantities as an intermediate in organic synthesis to prepare various cross-linking agents. When combined with emulsifiers, it is used to formulate water-based systems suitable for the production of inks and leather finishing agents.
