Thymosin is a class of endogenous active polypeptides secreted by the thymus. It was originally isolated from animal thymus. Its main subtypes include Thymosin‑α1 (T‑α‑1) and Thymosin β‑4 (Tβ‑4), which are critical molecules for regulating the body’s immune status 
1. Promote the differentiation and maturation of bone‑marrow‑derived precursor cells into T‑lymphocytes in the thymus, raise the count of CD4⁺ helper‑T cells and cytotoxic T‑cells and remedy defective T‑cell functions so as to strengthen cellular immunity. 2. Boost the activity of NK cells and macrophages and stimulate the release of cytokines such as interleukin‑2 and interferon‑γ, helping the human body resist bacteria and viruses and restrain the proliferation of mutated abnormal cells 3. Mainly referring to Thymosin β‑4, it facilitates angiogenesis and epithelial‑cell growth to accelerate the healing of skin and mucosa injuries and relieve chronic local inflammation.
