Methods of Manufacturing

0.094 mol of 2-hydroxy-5-trifluoromethylpyridine (15.3 g) and 14.4 g of N-chlorosuccinimide (0.108 mol) were added to 50 ml of anhydrous DMF / nitromethylpyrrolidone, The reaction was carried out at room temperature for 8 hours with stirring.The reaction was slowly added to 250 ml of water to give a pale yellow precipitate.The resulting precipitate was filtered and dried to give 17.1 g (0.087 mol) of 3-chloro-5-trifluoromethyl-2-hydroxypyridine in a yield of 92percent.
