6-CHLORO-7-METHYLPURINE Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

To a 1L 3-necked round-bottom flask purged and maintained with an inert atmosphere of nitrogen was placed 6-chloro-9H-purine (15.4 g, 0.1 mol, 1 equiv) and tetrahydrofuran (155 mL) at 0 °C followed by the addition of MeMgCl (36.6 mL, 1.0M THF solution, 1.1 equiv) dropwise with stirring. The mixture was stirred at 0 °C for 30 min. To this was added iodomethane (42.6 g, 3 equiv) dropwise with stirring. The resulting solution was stirred at 50 °C in an oil bath for 5 h, quenched by the addition of 50 mL of aqueous NH

Uses

6-CHLORO-7-METHYLPURINE is a useful synthetic intermediate.
