1,3-Diazaspiro[4.4]nonane-2,4-dione Use and Manufacturing
General procedure: To a solution of ketone (1.0 eq.) in EtOH/HGeneral procedure: To a stirred solution of corresponding cyclic ketones (1 eq) in a mixture of MeOH/HExamples of specific compounds of formula I wherein R2 and R3 are each hydrogen include: ... 5, 5-Di-n-octyl hydantoin 5-Methyl-5-(4'-methyl-3'-pentenyl-1')hydantoin 5-Methyl-5-(3'-methyl-2'-butenyl-1')hydantoin 5-Methyl-5-(1'-methylpropenyl-1')hydantoin 5, 5-Cyclotetramethylene hydantoin 5, 5-2'-Methylcyclotetramethylene hydantoin 5, 5-Cyclopentamethylene hydantoin 5, 5-1'-Methylcyclopentamethylene hydantoin ...General procedure: H (IVc) (Vc) A mixture of the appropriate ketone (Vic) (0.0825 mol) and ammonium carbonate (0.26 mol) in 60% aqueous ethanol (1 37.5 ml) was heated in a flask equipped with reflux condenser. After heating the mixture to a temperature of 50 C, a solution of potassium cyanide (0.875 mol) in water (12.5 ml) was added dropwise during 20 min. The reaction mixture was heated for 24-30 hours, maintaining the temperature in a range 56-60 C. Then the mixture was heated for about 2 hours at 75-80 C to remove the excess of ammonium carbonate. The resulting mixture was then cooled and acidified using 16% sulfuric acid to pH 5-6. The resulting precipitate was filtered off, washed several times with water and crystallized from ethanol or a mixture of ethanol/water 7:3 or 9: 1 v/v
