3-CHLORO-2-METHYLBIPHENYL Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

The preparation of 3-chloro-2-methylbiphenyl is to add magnesium metal and tetrahydrofuran into the reactor, then add dropwise a solution of 2, 6-dichlorotoluene in tetrahydrofuran to this solution, and the mixture is refluxed for 3 hours and then cooled to obtain the corresponding Grignard reagent. Add magnesium chloride (MgCl2) as a catalyst and tetrahydrofuran and bromobenzene into the reactor. Add the above-mentioned Grignard reagent dropwise to this mixture, maintain the temperature at 50-55°C under the protection of nitrogen, and heat the mixture to Maintain at 55°C for 2h, cool to room temperature, add hydrochloric acid to acidify, separate the layers, dry the oil layer, desolvate, and then perform vacuum distillation to collect the 106-108°C/267Pa fraction, which is 3-chloro-2-methylbiphenyl.

Uses

3-chloro-2-methylbiphenyl is an intermediate in the preparation of bifenthrin.
