Methods of Manufacturing

The preparation method is to add isopropanol and trioxane into the reaction kettle, pass in hydrogen chloride gas under stirring, and control a certain reaction temperature. After passing in a certain amount of hydrogen chloride, take samples and analyze. After the reaction is completed, stand still for stratification. It is hydrochloric acid, the upper layer is chloromethyl isopropyl ether, and the finished product is obtained by distillation. 3(CH3)2CHOH+(CH2O)3+3HCl→3ClCH2OCH(CH3)2+H2O pure product is colorless liquid, soluble in organic solvents such as isopropanol, ethanol, acetone and xylene.

Chloromethyl isopropyl ether is an intermediate of the herbicide propachlor.
