Chlorination of p-nitrobenzoic acid with thionyl chloride produces p-nitrobenzoyl chloride, which is then condensed with benzene with the participation of anhydrous aluminum trichloride to produce 4-nitrobenzophenone, which in turn reduces the nitro group The product is obtained by acylation with acetic anhydride.
