Can I paint or acid wash my pool instead of replastering?
If your plastered pool is looking dinghy or stained, an acid wash will often restore the plaster to its original color. Acid washing actually removes a thin layer of the plaster and therefore roughens the plaster slightly. If done correctly a plaster pool can be acid washed many times, but at some point it is too rough and/or the underlying gray concrete starts to show in spots. A good plaster job should last 15–20 years. At that point you will have to resurface the pool. Re-plastering is expensive but is still recommended for its longer durability.

If I were you I would consider painting only if I were planning to sell the house. Painting is such a bad idea that I will not take on new customers with painted finishes
