Cyclohexane + cyclohexene + con sulfuric acid
Well basically, i was away during the time we carried out the experiment. But what I've got so far is the following -
The cyclohexane initially mixed together, but divided into seperate layers (i think this one is correct) with the concentrated sulfuric acid on the bottom.
However for the cyclohexene a brown ring formed and there was a colourless solution above and below. I don't know if this is correct? Because alot of sites are saying different things ha!

Simple mixing does not always mean a chemical reaction. Different layers means that the materials are not miscible. Quuestion1: Does cyclohexane react with concentrated sulfuric acid? Question 2: If no, why? Question 3: Does cyclohexene react with concentrated sulfuric acid? Question 4: If yes, why and what is the product? Question 5: If any product formed, is it miscible with cyclohexene and/or concentrated sulfuric acid?
