Let assume the following:
for the unknown oil: Y = cinematic viscosity @ 100 C and U = cinematic viscosity @ 40 C.

You need two reference oils. One with a VI of 100 and one with a VI of 0. Both must have the same viscosity as the unknown oil @ 100 C.
H = cinematic viscosity @ 40 C of the VI=100 oil
L = cinematic viscosity @ 40C of the VI=0 oil

The VI of the unknown oil is then: VI = 100(L-U)/(L-H).

Viscosity Index (VI) =( (L - U) / (L- H) )x 100
In your case Viscosity of your oil at 100o is not clear. So please get it right. That is the input to get L and H from ASTM D2270 table.
U is the viscosity of your oil at 40o ie (416 cst in your case)
L is the VI of reference oil having VI = 0 ie(You will get this from ASTM D2270 table)
H is the VI of reference oil having VI = 100 ie(You will get this from ASTM D2270 table)
